Welcome To The Hormonal Hunger Games

You’ve heard of ‘The Hunger Games’, right? A world where survival is the ultimate challenge, where the competition is fierce, and where wit, bravery, and sheer determination are the only path to victory. Now, picture that world with a twist, a world that millions of women enter when they hit a certain age. Welcome to the “Hormonal Hunger Games”.

First things first: As a perimenopausal tribute, you’ll find yourself wrestling with more food cravings than a teenager left home alone with unlimited Wi-Fi and a credit card linked to a food delivery app. Fend off the call of chocolate and salty snacks at 10pm? Not as easy as you thought.

But don’t worry, you’re not alone in the ring. And guess what, those cravings are just hormonal uprisings in the body, creating a rumble in your system. Remember, in this game, your weapon of choice is not a bow and arrow, but the power of knowledge. Understanding that hormonal imbalances can drive cravings helps you plan and strategize your pantry raids. Pack your arsenal with healthier options, high in fiber and protein, like Greek yogurt or hummus and veggies. Your weapon is ready!


Perimenopause Can Be An Emotional Rollercoaster

Picture this: one minute you’re weeping at a laundry detergent commercial, the next, you’re roaring like a lion because the barista got your coffee order wrong. Sound familiar? Welcome to the thrilling ride of emotional ups and downs that is perimenopause. The fasten seatbelt sign is always on in this phase of life.

So, how do you ride this rollercoaster with grace and humor? Firstly, by not taking yourself too seriously. The hormones are playing tricks, making you feel like the emotional equivalent of a drunken karaoke singer. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Embrace it, laugh it off, and remember: this is just a phase (a wild, crazy, hormonal phase).

Perimenopause Energy Dips: Like A Smartphone Battery At 2%

You’ve had your eight hours of sleep, you’re three cups of coffee deep, and yet you’re still yawning as if auditioning for a role in ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Why? It’s just another arena in the Hormonal Hunger Games: the Battle of the Energy Dip.

Fatigue during perimenopause is a real contender. Think of your energy levels like a smartphone battery, but instead of running multiple apps in the background, you’re grappling with hormonal fluctuations. It’s draining, literally.

The secret to surviving this? Power-naps (no longer than 25 minutes) and plenty of hydration, like a minimum of 40oz a day of straight H2O. Oh, and maintaining a healthy sleep schedule (easier said than done, I know). Add in regular exercise to boost your energy levels and you’ll become a master at dodging those hormonal energy zappers. Remember, it’s all about playing smart, not just playing hard.


Be Like Katniss Everdeen

Entering perimenopause can feel much like stepping into the arena of ‘The Hunger Games’. You’re Katniss Everdeen, armed with an iron will, and yet no amount of training could have prepared you for this unique battleground.

Just like Katniss, perimenopause demands your quiet confidence and smarts. It’s a test of resilience and strength, where your body is in a constant tug-of-war with hormones. But remember, Katniss didn’t just survive; she thrived in the face of adversity. She used her intelligence and courage to turn the tide in her favor. In perimenopause, you are no different.

The hormonal fluctuations might toss you around like you’re caught in a wild storm, but amidst it all, you maintain your calm, you adjust your sails, and you ride the waves. Your ability to laugh at the absurdity of crying at commercials, or sore joints is akin to Katniss’s arrow, pointedly hitting the bull’s eye of hormonal chaos.

And so as you navigate the Hormonal Hunger Games, let’s not forget the most crucial piece of advice: laugh. In the face of cravings, mood swings, hot flashes and everything else perimenopause throws at you, humor is the ultimate survival tool. A little chuckle here, a hearty laugh there, can go a long way in making this journey not only bearable but also enjoyable. After all, a sense of humor does not have an expiration date, and neither does our strength.

As you suit up for battle each day, keep your head held high, and your wit higher. Remember, you’re not just a survivor, you’re a warrior – ready to conquer with a knowing smile and an unwavering spirit.

Perimenopause Is A Shared Experience By Millions

This isn’t just about getting by, it’s about lasting and being brave. It’s a world where hundreds of millions of us are all in it together, connected by what we’ve been through, standing strong with each other.

Did you know that by 2025 perimenopause and menopause will be the primary experience of roughly ONE BILLION women globally.

Just keep in mind, even though life can throw all sorts of crazy stuff our way, it’s also full of good times, shared wins, and strong friendships. Together, we’ll handle whatever comes our way. After all, as Suzanne Collins said in ‘The Hunger Games’, “Remember, we’re madly in love, so it’s alright to kiss me anytime you feel like it.” Replace the ‘kissing’ with ‘stuffing your face with chocolate’ and you’ve pretty much summed up the essence of perimenopause.

May the odds, and the oestrogen, be ever in your favour.


My Nugget Of Wisdom

Drawing inspiration from Maisie Hill’s empowering book ‘Perimenopause Power,’ we learn that our bodies are merely adjusting to a new phase of life, not breaking down. Just as she urged us to honor our cyclic nature, it’s time we embraced perimenopause not as a curse, but as an invitation to evolve.

Just as I walk this hormonal tightrope myself, so can you. Dealing with the big changes life throws at us can be pretty scary, but if we have some smarts, some determination, and can laugh about it, we can ride these waves together. Just like you root for the tough ladies in the Hunger Games, you’ve got to be your own biggest fan, treating yourself with kindness and understanding.
