Sydney

“If Paris is a city of lights, Sydney is the city of fireworks.”

– Baz Luhrmann

For years, the East Coast of Australia was the territory of backpackers and gappers, and to a certain extent that is still true. But touch down in the dramatic city of Sydney and you’ll find a population of tanned, zen, happy people who are centred, successful and extremely focussed on their health…..

You can leave your Bruce the Kangaroo and cork-hat clichés at the door. Sydney is one of the slickest, most spectacular places on the planet and a mecca for foodies, water babies and yogis alike. Steeped in the spiritual culture of Aboriginal dreamtime, it’s a superbly in-tune city (with, oddly, a smaller town feel) which has attracted lots of Byron Bay’s bohemians and superstar yoga teachers who have been flowing into Sydney for a few years now. To name but a few, Simon Borg-Olivier (co-founder and owner of Yoga Synergy and one of the best yoga teachers on the planet), Lance Schuler, Glenn Ceresoli, Louisa Sear, Rose Baudin and Clive Sheridan all popping in to run workshops and retreats, leaving their indelible mark on Australia’s yoga scene. Sydney’s wellness is at an all-time high at the moment so it’s a fabulous time to check it out.

Feeling hungry? With an obsession with avocados to rival Tulum, the health food scene is to die for and the breakfast culture is one you’ll never quite recover from. Perfecting the ultimate Eggs Benedict is something of a local sport and the culinary landscape can almost rival LA for healthy options, check out the market at The Rocks to see what we mean. As a side note, Sydney’s proximity to the Hunter Valley wine region means that the city is awash with some of the world’s finest wines (great news for lovers of the grape).

One of those cities where it seems to be illegal to stay indoors, Sydney is dedicated to outdoor pursuits particularly anything involving water. The harbours are dotted with sailing boats every day of the week and the saltwater outdoor pools are incredibly healing and earthy. A magical blend of city and shore, the ever-popular Bondi to Coogee beach path is a firm favourite among local runners (running is BIG here) and the lush Royal Botanical Gardens are a magnet for lunchbreak sun worshippers.

So pack your swimmers and the factor 50 and join the clean, happy Sydney-siders for some serious decluttering.
