There seems to be juice bars on every corner in LA, with new ones popping up every day. Many offer accompanying health food, others even offer happy hours. While jumping on the juicing bandwagon is a convenient way to add nutrient-dense foods to your diet on a regular basis, it can also get real expensive, real fast. So instead of trying every juice bar, we’ve pulled together some of the ones we really rate and kept returning to.
Remember, most of our recommendations in the Foodie Guide to LA offer great juices too as do many of our favourite yoga studios so check that out too. The juices we recommend are cold-pressed to retain the maximum nutrients and trace minerals. We advocate around three to four juices a week drunk with a straw to ensure maximum benefits without damaging your teeth.
Without further ado, in no particular order…
Juice Served Here
Founded by Alex Matthews & Greg Alterman, two fashion industry heavyweights who were driven to revolutionise how we drink ourselves clean, Juice Served Here is what happened over breakfast one day. When Alex met Greg (and fashion met health) they hit it off and this is the result. Juice Served Here is like entering a friend’s kitchen, greeted by health enthusiasts who curate selections to fulfil exactly what you need that day. We have to say, much like the Rose Café, this became one of our favourite places to work whilst we were living in Venice: much scheming and business design took place in this light, airy and inviting space. Their juice offering is awesome, you could come here every day for three weeks and try a new juice each time. We liked their Charcoal Lemonade, Jinja Greens, Cream Party and Green Milk. Some of the tastiest we’ve experienced.

Beverly Hills Juice
Forty years ago, David Otto became a vegetarian to improve his health. His experiments created juices that were alkalising and healing, so much so that Otto opened Beverly Hills Juice Club, eventually shortening it to Beverly Hills Juice. It’s been around for a while and the juices are still incredibly nourishing. If you find yourself in Beverly Hills then check it out.

Kreation Juicery
Kreation’s juiceries provide healthy and delicious drinks designed to invigorate the body and mind. Their pressed juices are never high pressure pasteurised, delivering significantly more nourishment and health benefits than traditional juicing methods. The juices are not only great for your body, but taste great too and they’ve got a large selection of smoothies. All Kreation juices are made from Farmer’s Market Certified Organic fruits and Certified Organic fruits and vegetables purchased locally in Santa Monica. They flood the body’s cells with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that cleanse, heal, and nourish you for a wonderful start to your day.

Moon Juice
This tiny Venice storefront sells everything nutritious that you could want to put in your body—dried fruit and nuts, cold-pressed juices and an extensive smoothie menu. Expect a high price tag for 100% organic ingredients and not so ordinary supplements like bee pollen, probiotics, aloe vera and anti-inflammatory maca. They have another branch in Silver Lake, though we went to the one on Rose to stock up on their wizard concoctions. A bottle of their juice contains over three pounds of raw, organic produce, unpasteurised and lives for 72 hours after being pressed so you’re getting a whole lotta goodness.
They also make something called ‘Moon Dust’ – custom blends of super-herbs which we love. Our fave was ‘Brain Dust’ although they also make one called ‘Sex Dust’, a lusty, edible formula alchemised to ignite and excite your sexual energy in and out of the bedroom. A holistic approach to deeply nourished sexual vigour, this warming elixir sends waves of sensitivity and power to all the right places (we didn’t pick any up this time but never say never…). We did buy some of their probiotics which nurture intestinal micro flora, heal the gut and re-colonise intestines with organisms that defend against disease, viruses and yeast. Probiotics boost nutrient potency and assimilation and decrease sugar cravings. This combined with all the kombucha we’d been drinking got rid of any bloatedness left over from the previous Christmas. It’s expensive but it really, really works. Pass the Sex Dust…

Pressed Juicery
The founders of Press Juicery had one goal in mind: to bring delicious, premium and nutritious juice to everyone. They achieved this by remembering three things: make it taste great, make it simple, make it affordable. They also make it for everyone, an accessibility which must have proved crucial in its success. In order to ensure that the nutritional integrity of their products was not compromised, they commissioned the UCLA School of Medicine to study the impact of the high-pressure process on the nutritional value of their juices. These guys have such a wide range of juices on their menu so take your pick; two that blew our mind were ‘Coconut Cinnamon’ and ‘Spiced Almond’. We used to pop into the one in Santa Monica regularly although there are branches all over LA.

Chomp Eatery & Juice Station
So this joint is a tad different from the other juice bars we’ve listed, as you can get a burger with your juice! Not the norm but we like it, ideal for when you’re a bit peckish. Chomp aim to use only organic products, avoid refined sugar, trans fats and processed ingredients. They even offer gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan/vegetarian options. It’s everyday food without all the junk in it. We like.
