Kobox
Kobox is on the Kings Road in Chelsea and is London’s first boutique boxing studio. What we love is that it’s as much for the girls as it is for the boys and has, quite frankly, become our go-to place for clearing our head and letting off some steam whilst ensuring that our upper arms are looking sexy. KOBOX offers high intensity boxing-based classes in a bespoke studio setting. They combine heavy bag boxing routines with functional strength training in a Fight Club-meets-Nightclub style environment. At KOBOX you’ll get fit, without getting hit. They also have a boxing ring if you’re hankering after some one-on-one real boxing action and coaching. You have to go here. It’s awesome through and through.
Kobox have just opened up Kobox City at 85 London Wall EC2 and are already taking bookings, so for those in the City you have no excuse not to get in the ring. As they say #fightclubmeetsnightclub

Miguel’s Boxing Gym
Not far from Brixton, Miguel’s caters for both the serious competitive boxer and those who want to use the training simply for fitness. They have great personal trainers for one-to-one sessions but if you’re brave enough and are prepared to work hard (and we mean really, REALLY hard), then sign up for one of the ‘white collar’ classes that run every Wednesday and Friday evenings. In addition, the club offers Mum & Baby boxing classes, obesity classes, kids’ boxing and various beginners’ classes as well. They are affiliated to the Amateur Boxing Association of England and have already helped potential champs climb the ladder towards success. Old school and friendly.

Repton Boxing Club
The oldest established boxing gym in England, Repton Boxing Club once counted the Kray Twins among its fighting patrons. The Repton motto is ‘Non Viscara…Non Gloria‘ or ‘No Guts…No Glory’, which encapsulates the boxing mindset perfectly. And you certainly do need guts: the Repton is for serious, competitive boxers only. So if you need Beginner or BoxFit classes then this is definitely NOT the place for you. Repton takes pride in its ‘old school retro‘ look and is basically the same venue as when Ronnie and Reggie traded blows. As a result, it’s been used for films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and music videos for the likes of Plan B. And, um, If you fancy yourself a bruiser, this is the place to test that theory.

Peacock Boxing
Peacock Gym is renowned throughout the boxing world. A charity founded in 1978, Peacock, like Stonebridge, is a testament to the communal work a good boxing gym can provide to an otherwise deprived region. Numerous fighters, from Lennox Lewis to Ricky Hatton, have sparred in its many rings. Floyd Mayweather enjoyed a public workout at the Peacock back in 2009. At the time he said, ‘It was like being back home.’
This well-endowed club boasts a Pro boxing and Cardio area, an Amateur Room, an Aerobics Hall and separate zones for fixed and free weights. Get round the place in a day and you’ll be eating steel for breakfast. The Peacock is now an established East End landmark and a point for potential London black cab drivers taking ‘The Knowledge’.
With former boxers Frank Bruno, George and Billy Walker among its patrons, there is probably no other gym which offers the range of activities the Peacock does. Currently located at Caxton Street North, a quiet side road off the busy Silvertown Way, it has become a hugely successful operation. The founders and operators are brothers Tony and Martin Bowers from a family who have been involved in boxing for over three centuries and seven generations. The knowledge passed down over the years makes The Peacock the real deal.
